Knowledge Innovation Model

If all of the phases are not undertaken, it is likely that the application will involve or end with only the stages that have been completed.  For example, many organizations have extensive databases but if the dissemination process does not provide easy access and encourage sharing, the higher stages of collaboration and innovation may not occur.  Similarly, if the organization does not have a culture the encourages learning and sharing, many of the lessons learned may be lost.

Educators have expertise in the facilitation of learning. When this is applied broadly to organizations, they can begin to develop the characteristics or learning organizations and ultimately of knowledge innovators. To achieve Knowledge Innovation, there must be a strong commitment to organizational development and staff education.

Human Resource policies help re-enforce the culture desired in a knowledge organization, eg: evaluations based on information sharing and collaboration, rewards that recognize innovation and team development.
